Tim Walz is Sworn in as 41st Governor of Minnesota
Walz, a Democrat, was elected in November 2018, defeating Republican incumbent Jeff Johnson.
Walz was sworn in at the Minnesota State Capitol in Saint Paul on January 7, 2019. He was joined by his wife, Gwen, and their two children.
In his inaugural address, Walz pledged to make Minnesota a "state of belonging" for all residents. He said he would work to improve education, healthcare, and the economy for all Minnesotans.
Walz is a former U.S. Army Reserve officer and a retired high school teacher. He served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2006 to 2018.
Walz's election was seen as a sign of the changing political landscape in Minnesota. The state has been trending Democratic in recent years, and Walz is the first Democrat to be elected governor since 2010.
